# Use a hotspot or a venue’s Wi-Fi — PPTControl

Original guide: https://pptcontrol.app/Help?guide=hotspot

Connect when the room’s Wi-Fi blocks your devices.

## 1. Turn on your phone’s hotspot

- **iPhone:** open **Settings → Personal Hotspot** and turn on **Allow Others to Join**.
- **Android:** open **Settings → Network & internet → Hotspot & tethering → Wi-Fi hotspot**. Other phones may call this **Mobile Hotspot**.

Note the hotspot name and password. Availability depends on your device and mobile plan.

## 2. Connect the computer

- In the computer’s Wi-Fi menu, join **your phone’s hotspot**.
- Keep the hotspot on. In PPTControl Desktop, choose **Show Pairing QR Code**.
- Scan the current code from PPTControl on the same phone and approve the computer request if shown.

Scan again after changing networks: the computer’s address may have changed.

## 3. Test before presenting

Try a slide change and, if you use Pro previews, wait for a preview to load.

- **Using venue Wi-Fi?** Matching Wi-Fi names do not guarantee devices can reach each other. Guest networks may isolate devices.
- **Using a VPN?** Check whether it allows local-network access.
- **Managed computer?** Ask your IT team to allow PPTControl Desktop’s local connections. Keep the firewall on. Router port forwarding is not needed.

If a local network is unavailable, [try Bluetooth for basic control](https://pptcontrol.app/Help?guide=bluetooth). Presentation traffic stays local; other apps can still use mobile data through the hotspot.
